NAGPUR: The schools and CBSE have recognized the importance of computer education in schools among the students which will help in their overall development and this is possible only with the help of those teachers who have worked on the establishing and integrating of the classroom teaching with information and communication technology (ICT).
ICT schemes in school not only provides a window of opportunity to the learners but it has made learning of new concepts and incorporating study material unique and exciting way because students have showed a great amount of interest to this this type learning. India recognized the importance of ICT in education as early as 1984-85 when Computer Literacy And Studies in School (CLASS) was introduced.
Since Indian government has launched various steps to introduce ICT in schools one such major step was ICT @Schools which provided a new platform of learning. In December 2004, ICT was launched in schools to provide opportunities to secondary stage students to develop ICT skills and promote ICT aided learning process. Under this scheme, Teachers are conferred with a "National Award for the use of ICT in education"
The award proposes to felicitate those educators who have enhanced student learning by effectively and inovatively integrating technology supported learning in to the school curriculum and subject teaching thereby promoting enquiry based cooperative and collaborative learning using ICT among the students. School teachers of primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondray schools of any recognized school in the Indian becomes a contestant. Following points are important for being the award that the school should be run by state government, school should be run by central government, school should be affiliated to the CBSE board and Councils of Indian Schools Cerrtificate Examination (CISCE).
Each winning teacher will be awarded with an ICT kit, a laptop and a commendation certificate. The winners would be encouraged to function as mentors for there area to motivate and train other teachers in area of ICT. The prize winning initiatives would be shared as best practices across the country. A portfolio and record of implementation of ICT is mandatory.
